As we stand at the threshold of 2026, the financial landscape has moved far beyond. In December, we were drowned in "wraps" from Google and Spotify, market summaries, and even personal year-in-review posts.
Indeed, reflection is valuable, but it is inherently incomplete unless it guides how we move forward. Year-end review summaries help us understand what worked, what did not, and why certain narratives dominated, but investing cannot stop at observation. Markets do not reward hindsight; they reward preparation.
Reflecting on the past year, our journey through 100 articles has been more than just a chronicle of market movements; it has been a quest for clarity.
The year 2025 taught us that we live in a fractured world, operating in a fundamentally different geopolitical environment. From tariff shocks to H-1 B visa chaos, friction has become the new baseline. But here's what we learned: restrictions and barriers don't stop global flows; they reroute them.
A defining theme of the year was the structural transformation of the Indian equity market. We also witnessed the "Great Ownership Flip," where, for the first time, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) finally overtook Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) in ownership share for the Indian markets. This shift has created a "DII cushion," fueled by monthly SIP flows that reached record highs of over ₹28,400 crore in 2025, providing a dependable demand floor that absorbs global volatility.
However, we also identified the "IPO Paradox". Despite record fundraising exceeding ₹2 lakh crore, the "IPO trade" became structurally less rewarding for retail investors as pricing became more aggressive, leaving thin margins for listing-day gains. The lesson remains: follow the money, distinguishing between fresh capital for growth and exit capital for existing shareholders.

We explored various ways to create alpha like exploiting size factor, analysis of financial statement, sectoral growth stories like Defence, Digital Platforms, Luxury, Rare Earths.
Icing on the cake was to get some validation for our previous perspectives, like the one on silver, when its price was less than a lakh for 1 kg. (Allow me some hindsight bias)
Not to forget the ultimate asset – YOU. Drawing your attention to wellness asset allocation, octopus like mindset, and asset retrieval as important aspects of wealth creation. As you enter 2026, I am sure you will continue to embrace out-of-the-box thinking and the art of "Zooming In and Zooming Out" to distinguish between short-term noise (corrections) and the enduring signal of long-term growth.
What Matters in 2026
Looking forward, several factors will separate resilient portfolios from fragile ones.
My dear readers, remember, the real purpose of reflection is to refine process, recalibrate expectations, and realign capital with long-term objectives. Without a forward lens, clear priorities, disciplined frameworks, and an awareness of evolving risks, reflection remains an exercise in comfort rather than a tool for progress. For investors, the past only matters insofar as it helps shape better decisions in the future.
Throughout the year, I write to you, but the most meaningful part of this process is not the writing itself, it is what comes back. Without fail, your emails and messages are a delight. They bring new learning, thoughtful questions, and genuine feedback.
As we step into 2026, I invite you to share what you would like to hear more of. The questions you are grappling with. The risks that concern you. The themes you want examined. Your inputs would shape not just future writing, but the quality of insight we collectively arrive at.
Here is to 2026. Here is to staying open - to learning, to conversation, and to long-term thinking.
Best Regards
Dr. Tarunika Jain Agrawal Ph.D.
